Be Confident, and You Might Surprise Yourself

A few months ago, I wrote a blog post about my #1 interview tip: become the confident version of yourself. You can re-read the post here: Interview Tip: Just Be You, The Confident You.

Of course, that's not the only tip available to face an interview, but that is my favourite one and the one that I hold dear. My belief is that the interviewers want to see who you are beyond your resume.

Your resume has already gotten you the interview spot, but once you are in the interview session, they are no longer interested in the resume.

They are interested in you.

So, if you spend too much time focusing and investing in building up your resume, you might end up neglecting your own self. Spend more time building yourself; your talents, skills, and confidence.

It will shine in the interview session. No need to fake it.

Alhamdulillah, I am grateful that I am blessed with the opportunity to attend the International Leadership Programme under the Prince's Trust - a youth charity based in the UK. I will be in London for 2 weeks for an intensive leadership summit, fully sponsored by the organizer.

Excited!

How did I get the offer?

A friend of mine suggested it to me and I decided to apply, with little hope of getting it. But hey, don't give up until you have tried your best right?

In the application, they require that the youth involved be active in the community with some form of service. I of course told them everything about the Speak Up! Project that I started in 2015, to educate and train self-confidence in local Malaysian youths.

Among thousands of applications, mine landed me an interview spot. Among hundreds of interviewees, I got 1 of the 80 spots offered. This is an international program and I am proud to represent Malaysia (along with 3 other chosen Malaysians)!

Seriously, I didn't think I'd get it. But in life, sometimes you will surprise yourself if only you give yourself a chance.

Prior to today, we were already introduced to our group members. Oh my God, the amount of talented and passionate youths in this program surely can make you feel small.

But, don't let other people's achievements undermine your own achievements! You should be proud of what you have accomplished and hang out with awesome people with the intention of self-improvement and learning.

The International Leadership Programme is a yearly event, I think, so I encourage all of you to give it a shot! Who knows, you might surprise yourself :)

"The International Leadership Programme (ILP) is a 12-month programme inspiring young people aged 25 to 35 to develop leadership skills to make a positive impact in their local communities.

The programme begins with the International Summit, which brings together 80 international young leaders aged 25-35 to participate in a two week residential training conference, featuring world-renowned leadership trainers and speakers.

The Summit includes leadership skills workshops, inspirational sessions on global issues such as poverty and sustainability, and visits to projects in the local area which demonstrate leadership in action."
